- Introduction
The theme of my multimedia project is to introduce new students and visitors to Kamloops to the basics. I’d like to introduce the sights of Kamloops to our visitors and the TRU campus and surrounding environment to our new students.
For the scope of the discussion on “New to Kamloops”, I’m going to focus on four areas: food, clothing, housing, and transportation, from shopping, eating to accommodation to travel and attractions. This will include as much detail about Kamloops as possible. I may not give a detailed introduction about shopping, but I will simply list which place is for the new students
2. Rationale
The reason I chose this topic is because, on the one hand, there are many new students in TRU every year. They can use my website to get to know this place. On the other hand, I am studying Tourism, the topic “new to somewhere” make me more interest. when people coming to Kamloops, they might be scared because everything is new, especially the international students. That’s why my site bring people attention.
3. Core angles/questions relevant to the topic
A list of questions this multimedia project could explore
- What are some natural attractions in Kamloops
- Which seasons of the year are worth visiting in Kamloops
- How do you find the best place to stay in Kamloops
- Are there convenient and economical supermarkets/shopping places around TRU
- What are the basic buildings in TRU? What are the places that students need to know the most
A list of general story ideas or angles that might be included
- How did people feel when they first arrived in Kamloops, and how is it different than it is now
- What has impressed tourists or students in Kamloops so far, or what interesting stories have happened here
- Is there something memorable or memorable about Kamloops after you leave the area?
- Media Outline
- Informative Text story w/photos – pitch the story you will tell in this project and explain why it suits the media
Informative Text Story with photos I wanted to introduce the Informative Text of Kamloops and TRU’s iconic buildings with some pictures and Text. I wanted to get my audiences interested in the topic of my site and get a general idea of Kamloops through my description.
- Audio Interviews – pitch the story you will tell in this project and explain why it suits the media
I’m going to interview someone who now lives in Kamloops and describe how he or she felt when he first came to Kamloops and how he or she feels now. What are some of the places they’re interested in in Kamloops? Is there anything interesting that happened during their time in Kamloops? Ask them to recommend some places that they think are special. I think my audiences can imagine Kamloops through audio and get more interested in coming here.
- Editorial Slideshow – pitch the story you will tell in this project and explain why it suits the media
In my Slides, I will use a lot of pictures, short videos, and links if possible, and text descriptions to introduce Kamloops and TRU in detail. These include special attractions, recommended restaurants and accommodations, travel options and so on. The reason for this description is to let the audiences have a more comprehensive understanding of Kamloops and find what they need from my slides after a simple understanding and self-imagination.
- Investigative Video – pitch the story you will tell in this project and explain why it suits the media
In the investigative video, I’d like to interview one or two people in Kamloops (or tourists if possible, depending on the pandemic). Similar to an audio interview, I’d like to ask them to tell me if they have any recommended restaurants or attractions for tourists. Using video in this way gives my site credibility and allows my audiences to get to know Kamloops through the lens.
